Shots were fired near a government helicopter carrying a delegation in the Kurram area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, sources said on Thursday.
The incident occurred when a jirga was ongoing to fix local issues, they said, adding that no serious damage was reported.
Provincial Law Minister Aftab Alam, chief secretary and other senior officials were on board.
The jirga, a traditional tribal assembly, is actively working to mediate tensions, though sporadic firing continues in the area.
"The helicopter was not targeted directly," a top government official said.
The Kohat deputy commissioner said that firing incidents are common in the area, but the frequency of such occurrences is a cause of concern.
“Efforts are being made to address the issues, but the firing remains a concern,” stated the chief secretary.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is holding meetings with tribal elders to fix local problems, he said adding that no one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands.
The Pakistan Army troops are on petrol to maintain law and order, the top official said, adding that this incident highlights the complexities of maintaining order in a region where traditional tribal customs and modern governance intersect.
KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed grave concern over the firing, calling it "deeply regrettable." “Serious efforts must be undertaken to restore peace in Kurman,” he emphasized.
