PTI Lahore President Sheikh Imtiaz said on Sunday that the police had arrested 2, 500 party workers who had come to attend the rally at Kahna, Lahore on Saturday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
He said there were orders to put 500 PTI leaders and workers under house arrest.
Imtiaz said that the police also confiscated the material that was meant to be used for jalsa.
“The police also tried to arrest me from the venue. But the party workers intervened and thwarted their attempt,” he said, adding, “And I thank those workers for that.”
A few hours earlier, 24News TV channel had reported that 30-day detention orders of 487 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and workers, issued by the Lahore deputy commissioner at the police’s request, had been withdrawn.
The orders were issued on September 17, 19, and 20.
The police had taken more than 100 party workers into their custody during the rally; several of whom were later put under house arrest.
