PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is expected to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today in the evening at the PM House to discuss the canals issue, which has soured relations between the PPP and the PML-N, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

Quoting its sources, the 24News TV channel reported that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, who had reached Islamabad on Wednesday, would also attend the meeting.

On the other hand, sources in the PPP rejected reports of a meeting expected to take place between the PPP chairman and the prime minister today.

They said no such meeting was included in today’s schedule.

The government’s decision to carve out canals from the River Indus to irrigate lands in Bahawalpur has drawn the ire of all political parties of Sindh, including the PPP.

Though nationalist parties took the lead in raising their voice over the issue, the PPP did its best to catch up with them so much so that at one stage the very existence of a coalition government appeared to be at risk.

However, later, the PPP leaders said that although the party could withdraw its support for the government, still, it would not go to that extent.
