Terming the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty by India a declaration of war by the latter against Pakistan, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and PTI stalwart Omar Ayub Khan said on Thursday that the statements issued by the federal ministers against the decision taken by India so far were apologetic, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In his tweet, he said that every moment since the suspension of the treaty was like a time bomb for Pakistan. “It is time Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stopped becoming submissive,” Omar said, and added that there existed serious threats to the country’s security.
He further said that the decision to oust the PTI government through a vote of no-confidence in April 2022 set in motion the country’s economic downfall. “The governments formed after the ouster of the PTI government have devastated Pakistan.”
The opposition leader lamented that former prime minister Imran Khan, who was the country’s most popular leader, was behind bars.
He accused Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of exporting mortar shells worth $850 million to Ukraine in 2023.
“We don’t have the spare parts for our military equipment, and our fuel reserves are also under stress,” he said, and added, “At a time when the situation is precarious, the government that has been thrust upon us is nowhere in the picture.”
