National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser has summoned two Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz (PML-N) lawmakers Murtaza Javed Abbasi and Muhammad Sajjad who earlier directly sent their resignations to him, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

NA Speaker Asad Qaiser summoned both the legislators today (Thursday) for the confirmation of their resignations, the TV channel reported.

A circular has been issued to both members of the Lower House to contact the National Assembly Secretariat for confirmation of their resignations. Both members of the National Assembly sent their resignations to Speaker Asad Qaiser on the official letter pad on December 14, the TV channel reported.

The NA circular reads, “The signatures of both the members of the National Assembly are in accordance with the signatures given in the records of the National Assembly and members should inform the National Assembly Secretariat of the date of their appearance before the NA Speaker to confirm their resignations.”

It has been reported that members will be called to confirm their resignations within seven days of the date from the issuance of the letter.

The TV channel reported that in case of non-response from the members, it will be presumed that they have not said anything in their defence and in case of non-appearance of both the PML-N members, their resignations will be accepted.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has already rejected the ultimatum given by the opposition alliance of 11-parties Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) to Prime Minister Imran Khan to step down by January 31.

It is pertinent to note that PDM President Maulana Fazlur Rehman already said lawmakers from PDM member parties in the national and provincial assemblies will hand in their resignations to their party leaders by December 31.

On the other hand, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed earlier stated if the PDM wants to submit resignations then they must not waste time and tender resignations as soon as possible.
