A man dressed as Santa Claus was severely beaten up by a Hindu mob in a residential colony in Indian Gujarat's Vadodara city. The police confirmed that a ruckus was created after the incident, but no formal complaint was registered in this regard, reported Indian media.

The man dressed up as Santa Claus was distributing chocolates in a colony in Makarpura when this incident occurred. He had gone to the colony to meet and greet some members of his community who stayed there.

"Some of the residents objected to him distributing chocolates. This led to arguments between two different communities," Rashmin Solanki, Makarpura police inspector, told Times of India.

Solanki further said that Christian community members approached the police after the incident and sought security for any procession they might take out in the area.

"I have promised them all the help. No complaint has been filed by any of the involved parties with regard to the incident," Solanki added.

Ahead of Christmas, reports of increased attacks targeting the houses of the Christian community have come to light from Chhattisgarh. Since last week hundreds of tribal Christians have reportedly fled from their villages in the Narayanpur district.

According to the Chhattisgarh Christian Forum, over a hundred people, including women, took shelter in a stadium in Narayanpur, while many others were accommodated at other places, including churches.

The Chhattisgarh Christian Forum met state governor Anusuiya Uikey and submitted a memorandum seeking an end to the continued atrocities against the community.

Tribal Christians have been protesting for days at the district collector's office in Narayanpur against alleged atrocities faced by them. Protesters from 14 villages of the tribal-dominated district have claimed that they were assaulted and evicted from their homes for converting to Christianity.
