The year, 2024, turned out to be a nightmare for the PTI as it suffered a setback on several fronts, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
Right at the start of the ongoing year, which is heading towards its end, the Supreme Court (SC) in January not only declared the PTI’s intra-party elections null and void but also robbed it of its electoral symbol.
Still, the candidates, fielded by the party for the general elections held on February 8, contested as independents and the party stunned all and sundry by winning close to 100 seats.
Later these independents joined the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) since they could no longer be deemed to be the PTI MNAs following the SC verdict.
However, since the party (SIC) had not submitted the list for the reserved seats, it could not get these seats either.
While on one hand, the PTI was grappling with legal and constitutional issues, on the other hand, the former prime minister and the party founder Imran Khan tasked Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur with organising countrywide protest demonstrations.
Although the party held several demonstrations and indulged in confrontation with the Center, still it did not get the results it was looking for.
There were also reports of intra-party differences, which its opponents exploited to show that it was no longer a political force.
Now it is towards the end of 2024 that the PTI has finally sat with the PML-N-led coalition government at the negotiation table after 2013.
Whether the talks will be successful; this remains to be seen.
However, one thing is certain that Imran Khan still has Plan B and Plan C in his mind.
