5 industrial units, 4 markets sealed for violating environment laws in Lahore

Environmental Protection Department has sealed five industrial units and closed four shopping units for violating environmental laws in Shadra and at Band Road Lahore, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday. 

Among the sealed industrial units and shopping units, AS Diving Shahdara, Asif Diving Shahdara, Khwahar Kapla Band Road, Sikandar Steel Karol Ghati, New Khan Steel Band Road, Zeeshan Plastic Shahdara, Faisal Plastic Band Road, AJ Plastic Shahdara and Imad Plastic Shahdara are included. 

During the operation, as many as 670 vehicles were inspected and 160 challans were issued and Rs320000 fine has been imposed for spreading pollution. 

Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said strict action continued against violation of environmental laws and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) teams are active day and night to provide a clean environment to citizens. 

In this regard, 25 AQI monitoring units have been established to continuously monitor air pollution levels and work continued on the target of 60. 

Moreover, strict instructions have been issued to install modern filters in all industrial units to reduce smoke and pollution. 

Electric and hybrid buses are being launched to promote low-pollution vehicles.

A campaign to plant green belts and trees is underway to reduce carbon emissions.

95 percent of old kilns have been converted to modern zigzag technology to reduce pollution.

Educational and media campaigns are being run to create awareness among the public about environmental protection.

Strict action against vehicles emitting smoke, surveillance of sand and material transport is underway.

Solar energy generation projects are being completed rapidly. Wet sweeping and water spraying are also underway across the city.

In view of public health, the use of plastic bags of less than 75 microns is being strictly enforced.
