Internet users in Pakistanis will witness increase in internet speed in next few days after connectivity with subsea cable network 2Africa in Karachi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

Sources said that 45,000-kilometer cable lying process is almost in final stages after which the internet speed will be enhanced up to 180 terabits.

After completion of cable lying process, the internet speed will be accelerated in Pakistan including on all social media apps.

Pakistan will achieve digital progress after connection of cable which will pave way for speedy and smooth connectivity of internet.

According to Transworld Associates, subsea marine 2Africa is most reliable cable project internationally, and after installation the internet speed in Pakistan will be enhanced from 10 to 42 terabits per second.

It is necessary to mention here that an extension to the original 2Africa cable, known as 2Africa Pearls, was announced in 2021, with plans for further landing points in Oman, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Pakistan, India, and Saudi Arabia.

China Mobile International and Meta are the consortium parties responsible for the Karachi portion of the cable. The pair has contracted Transworld Associates to operate and own the landing.

PTA says 2Africa Cable System is set to go live in Pakistan by 2025-end

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has made significant strides in enhancing international connectivity through the facilitation of Transworld Associate (TWA), the landing partner of the 2Africa Submarine cable for Pakistan.

According to a news release of PTA, as one of the world’s largest submarine cable systems, the 2Africa cable spans 45,000 kilometres and connects 46 locations across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. Utilizing SDM1 technology, it offers 180Tbps capacity.

Supported by a global consortium of eight partners, including Meta and Vodafone, the 2Africa cable is set to go live in Pakistan by Q4 2025.

Commencement of Phase 1 of the project, involving Pre-Lay Shore End (PLSE) installation, began on December 1, 2024, with the cable landing at Hawksbay, Karachi.

In Phase 2, the deep-sea cable lay will commence on April 1, 2025.

The project according to PTA will improve Pakistan’s international telecommunications infrastructure and enhance connectivity.
