British High Commissioner to Pakistan Christian Turner Thursday congratulated Pakistan on launching the National Plastic Action Partnership, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In a video, Christian Turner said, “First of all, I would like to congratulate Pakistan on launching the National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP).”
“As COP President the UK hosted COP26 Glasgow last November and made ambitious commitments on coal, cars, nature and finance.”
British HC said that the Pakistan delegation in Glasgow was headed by SAPM Aslam and it demonstrated global leadership on climate change by signing up to reduce methane emissions and to improve our natural habitat.”
Turner said, “As you all know, I have made plastic waste, something of a personal project. That is because plastic damages the environment and Pakistan’s beautiful landscape.”
Like most countries, Pakistan is also grappling with growing plastic pollution which is expected to double from 4 million tons today to 8 million tons by 2050, he added.
The British HC revealed that Pakistan is the first country from South Asia to join this Global Plastic Action Partnership (GPAP) which the UK also supports.
He commented that signing the GPAP was a landmark step which shows Pakistan’s commitment towards a greener future.
“We are also leading the call for a new global ’30 by 30’ target to protect at least 30 percent of land and at least 30 percent of oceans by 2030 which Pakistan is already a signatory.”
He congratulated government, private sectors, communicates and individuals should contribute towards a better plastic economy.
He said, “I hope we all can collectively help reduce the threat of plastic pollution.
