Food Authority, Rawalakot, Poonch, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has claimed to have arrested two key members of an inter-provincial gang of fake eggs suppliers red-handed in what it called a major operation against the suppliers of such food items, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
The Authority has also claimed to have recovered over 5, 000 eggs mixed with chemicals besides impounding the vehicle used for their transportation.
According to details, the operation was carried out in Taen, Jandala, Thorrar and Pachyot areas under the supervision of district food safety officer and assistant food safety officers.
District Food Authority had been alerted by its sources that a van, carrying fake eggs, was on its way to these areas of the AJK for their onward supply.
The officials involved in the operation have told media that the eggs were prepared at a farmhouse near Rawalpindi.
Assistant Food Safety Officer Qazi Iqbal has said that the eggs have been sent to the Punjab Food Authority’s laboratory for the test. “Action will be taken against their manufacturers once the Authority receives the test result,” he said, and made it clear that there would be no compromise on human health.
He has vowed that the Food Authority would continue to crack down on the people involved in the business.
He has also urged people to make sure that the eggs they are buying are not substandard or fake.
