In poll-bound Assam, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) leader and Member of Parliament Badruddin Ajmal has said that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will demolish 3,500 mosques in the country if the saffron party returns to power at the Centre in 2024, reported Times Now on Sunday.
The AIUDF leader made the remarks at an election rally at Gauripur in his Dhubri parliamentary constituency the other day. “BJP has listed 3,500 mosques across the country and will demolish all of them if they form the next government in 2024 general elections,” he said.
Further lashing out at the BJP, Ajmal said that the Quran sanctioned triple talaq but the Narendra Modi government abolished it. He also warned that if the BJP comes to power once again in the state, they will ensure that Muslim women cannot wear a burqa, the Muslim man cannot sport a long beard, and cannot don traditional skull caps.
His remarks came just two days after AIDUF, Congress, CPI, CPI (M), CPI (ML) and Anchalik Gana Morcha formed an alliance in an attempt to “save Assam” by defeating the Sarbananda Sonowal-led NDA government in the state.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on Congress and the AIUDF, saying both the parties will open all gates to welcome infiltrators into Assam and only BJP can safeguard it.
"Congress, Badruddin Ajmal will open all gates to welcome infiltrators into Assam, only BJP can safeguard the state," he said.
Amit Shah further said that Congress did divide and rule and there was only bloodshed in Assam for 20 years and 10,000 youths were killed. He alleged that Congress killed Assamese youths with bullets. "Give us five more years in Assam, we will make it free from bullets, agitations and floods," he added.
