The Supreme Court has rejected the National Highway Authority’s appeal relating to increase in the price of land which it purchased for the Peshawar Motorway, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The apex court upheld the decision of the Peshawar High Court regarding land price increase.

The NHA told the SC that it bought land for Peshawar Motorway for Rs35,000 per marla but the PHC doubled the land price to Rs70,000.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial observed that the NHA did not pay the price since 2006. He remarked that even if the NHA paid the price, it could not justify its forcible purchase of the land from citizens.

The Supreme Court upheld the PHC’s decision and ordered the NHA to make payment to the owners of the land.

A three-judge bench of the SC headed by CJP Bandial heard the case on Tuesday.
