Hundreds fall sick as gastroenteritis cases rise in Umerkot

The water-borne disease gastroenteritis has increased in the Umerkot district and at least 100 new cases suffering from the disease have been reported on Sunday.

According to 24NewsHD TV channel, 30 patients suffering from gastro were brought to Tehsil Hospitals of Samaro, 20 in Pithuro, and 25 in Kunri.

In Umerkot, the cases of malaria and diarrhea are also increasing along with gastroenteritis.

The sources said that at least 200 patients suffering from malaria visited Umerkot private hospitals in a single day.

The absence of mosquito killer spray is the main reason behind the spreading of malaria in the district.  

According to health experts, the acute shortage of potable water has increased the number of gastro patients in the district, and the people are forced to take contaminated water.

The main complication of gastroenteritis is dehydration, but this can be prevented with an increased intake of clean fluid”, they added. They said that Gastroenteritis is a bacterial infection, caused by bacteria. Consumption of contaminated water and scorching heat caused the outbreak of gastroenteritis and diarrhea.

Sizzling summer and the monsoon seasons are both catalysts for waterborne diseases. Gastroenteritis symptoms included abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting.

The doctors urged the people to save themselves from sunstroke, consume boiled water, and avoid rotten food.

They advised the people to cover their food items.
