A militant, belonging to the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), was killed in a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) operation near Karachi’s northern bypass, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
CTD DIG Asif Ijaz said the operation was conducted after the department was informed of the presence of militants in the area. “The slain militant, who has been identified as Umar Farooq, died on way to a hospital. He was the mastermind of attacks on Karachi’s Police Office and Abbas Town and had remained in jail in connection with cases of terrorism, murder and attempted murder,” he said, adding, “Farooq went to Afghanistan after he was released from jail.”
The official said that the search for the deceased’s accomplices was underway. "
