King Edward Medical University Vice-Chancellor Prof Khalid Masud Gondal has been bestowed with the Presidential Award Pride of Performance in recognition of his services in the field of medical education.
The grad of KEMU is a fellow of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), Royal College of Physicians, Glasgow, American College of Surgeons.He has over 100 national and international research papers with more than 40 presentations. Pakistan’s higher education commission nominated him as the focal person of research in surgery and the judge for the commission’s National Research Award.
Prof Gondal is among a few academicians who hold post-graduation in Medical Education (MCPS-HPE) and PhD in medical education from the University of Health Sciences. He is a team member supervising and implementing competency-based medical education, revamping curricula and introducing an innovative monitoring system – e-log at CPSP and university levels.
Upgrade
He was elevated to grade 21 in 2015 on the basis of his performance. He is a senior faculty member of the American College of Surgeons, Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) programme. He represented Pakistan at international forums including the Royal College of Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, the US, the Middle East and Saarc while he played a pivotal part in joint ventures with these states.
Tamgha-i-Imtiaz
Tamgha-i-Imtiaz was awarded to Prof Gondal in 2013. He has the honour of being the first regular VC of Fatima Jinnah Medical University VC and got it accredited by the bodies concerned in six months.
He brought in the establishment of the examinations department, the regular appointment of pro-vice-chancellor, registrar and controller of examinations. He introduced new sub-specialities programmes and revamped rules and regulations. In his term, the FJMU journal was accredited by PM&DC, HEC and CPSP.
As the KEMU VC, he has the credit of getting PM&DC and the HEC approval of PhD programmes in basic sciences and accrediting its KEMU research journal in category-y and including it in 20 indexing agencies. Prof Gondal published a book on KEMU for the first time in the 158-year history of this precious institution.
Covid Combat
KEMU VC has been leading his team in the war against coronavirus. Thousands of Covid-19 patients were treated at the KEMU-attached hospitals and Covid research is going on. As per HEC instruction, online teaching and training is a regular feature of University. The establishment of the telemedicine department and tele outdoor are innovations of the university where thousands of patients are availing this unique facility.
