A district and sessions court in Toba Tek Singh on Monday announced its verdict in Maria murder case awarding death sentence to her father Abdul Sattar and her brother Faisal while acquitting other brother Shahbaz and her aunty Sumeera by giving them advantage of doubt, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The brutal murder was revealed after a video clip of the gory incident surfaced on social media.
The video showed that on the midnight of March 17-18, 2024 Maria was killed by his father Abdul Sattar and Faisal who strangled her throat.
The court also imposed Rs1 million penalty on each of the convicts.
It is necessary to mention here that, a former president of the district bar association, Advocate Kamran Zafar, who was the counsel for one of the killers, Shahbaz, announced that he was no more interested to represent the suspect during the trial.
Speaking at a press conference, the lawyer said he had decided to become the suspect’s counsel considering him innocent.
