Admiral (retd) Fasih Bokhari – a former naval chief who also served as the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman – died in Islamabad on Tuesday morning, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Bokhari’s funeral prayers would be offered after Asr prayers at a local mosque in Chak Shehzad – an affluent area of the federal capital where he lived and died.
In his Twitter account bio, the former naval chief mentioned that he was currently the patron of Veterans of Pakistan and fighting cancer. He was 78.
Born on March 8, 1942, Bokhari replaced Admiral Mansurul Haq as Chief of Naval Staff till his retirement on October 2, 1999.
Later in October 2011, he was appointed as the NAB chairman by the then president Asif Ali Zardari. However, it triggered a controversy with the Supreme Court was moved against the move.
The entire episode ended 19 months later when the apex court set aside his appointment in May 2013. It was former PML-N leader Chaudhry Nisar – leader of the opposition in the National Assembly at that time – who filed the petition.
