In a late-night operation on Tuesday, the Punjab University (PU) administration evicted several students staying at the university hostels in violation of the new hostels allotment policy, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
The hapless students had to spend the whole night outside the Punjab University vice chancellor’s office. They burnt woods to keep themselves warm.
Under the new policy, fresh students are not entitled to rooms at the varsity hostels.
The students have termed the new policy a violation of the rules.
The PU administration has already conveyed this to all departments’ heads that there is a ban on the allotment of rooms to the students of MPhil, MS, MBA, LLM and PhD.
Under the new policy, only five students of BSc Honours first and fifth semesters will be allotted rooms at the university hostels.
The new rules also ban the students, already staying at these hostels, from seeking extension in their stay.
