Three hardened terrorists associated with Fitna al Khawarij were killed during an intelligence-based operation conducted by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in the Chakri area of Rawalpindi, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel on Sunday.
According to a CTD spokesperson, the team launched the operation based on credible intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the area. Upon arrival, the militants opened indiscriminate fire on the CTD personnel, triggering a heavy exchange of gunfire.
The spokesperson revealed that three terrorists were killed during the encounter, reportedly by the firing of their own associates. However, two militants managed to escape, prompting the CTD to launch a search operation in the surrounding areas.
The operation uncovered a large cache of weapons and explosives, including a suicide jacket, safety-fuse wire, rifles, an IED bomb, bullets, and other explosive material. Authorities believe the terrorists were planning to target sensitive locations in Rawalpindi.
The CTD has cordoned off the entire Chakri area, and efforts are underway to identify the deceased militants while pursuing the two who fled.
