Former prime minister and PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif has directed his party leaders and members to not attend meeting with military representatives.

In a tweet on Thursday, the PML-N leader said that the recent incident proved that some secret meetings were being advertised to get wanted results. This should be stopped once for all, he added. He restrained his party members from attending such secret meetings next time. He said that none of his party members would meet the military officials in any capacity.

Nawaz Sharif said that party would hold meeting with establishment if it is necessary for national defence and constitutional requirement. He said that every such meeting would be declared with the approval of the party leadership.

On Wednesday, Director-General Inter-Services Public Relations Maj General Babar Iftikhar confirmed that PML-N leader Muhammad Zubair had met twice with Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa. The DIG ISPR said DG ISI Faiz Hameed was also present in the meetings.

Talking to a TV channel, he said both meetings were held on the request of Muhammad Zubair and he discussed the issues relating to Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz.

The DG ISPR said the first meeting was held in last week of August and second was on September 7. Maj General Babar said in both the meetings Zubair only talked about issues related to Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz.

Responding to the issue, PML-N leader Muhammad Zubair said he did not ask any favour for his party leaders in meeting with Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa. Zubair said he has some 40-year old relations with COAS Bajwa and it was not the first time he met with the COAS. He said he never met COAS ever for any political reasons and he did not represent anyone in the meetings.

He said neither Nawaz Sharif nor Maryam Nawaz asked for the meetings. He said he discussed different things with the COAS including political ones but that was not meant for asking favours.
