Prime Minister Imran Khan will lay the foundation stone of Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) next week, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
This was disclosed by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Member of Sindh Assembly Khurrum Sher Zaman on Friday.
Talking to the media in Karachi, he said a new track would be laid for the train, which would be the fastest amongst all trains powered by electricity.
“Around 0.4 million people will commute through the train each day, which will reach each station every six minutes,” he said, adding that a deadline of one-and-a-half year has been set for the project’s completion.
Earlier on Friday, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), which met with Minister for Finance Shaukat Tarin in the chair, gave a go ahead signal to launching work on the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project which would be completed at the cost of over Rs20 billion.
