Alternative system for dispute resolution is a must: CJP

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial has said it is the need of the hour to establish an alternative system for dispute resolution, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.

He was addressing the closing session of the ‘9th International Judicial Conference’ organized by the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan under the auspices of the National Judicial (Policy Making) Committee in Islamabad on Saturday.

The theme of the conference centres around 75 years of Independence of Pakistan, titled, “Administration of Justice: 75 Years- Reflecting on the past and Looking Towards the Future.”

Chief Justice Umar Ata said it will take five to fifteen years for the full implementation of the alternative dispute resolution system that will bring a drastic change in our judicial system. He expressed his satisfaction saying that the conference succeeded in giving the future framework to the judiciary. “Some ideas emerged from the five themes of the conference,” he added.

He observed that the court has taken a step toward technology through video links, but it is a known fact today that the world is far ahead of our system.

“We heard more than 3300 cases in the last seven months through video link”, he informed the conference.

Chief Justice of Pakistan said that police and prosecution need more training to deliver justice.

It is necessary to solve other problems including population explosion and climate change, he urged.

Justice Umar Ata Bandial said that Justice Qazi Faiz Isa drew attention to solving problems in the spirit of Islam and he rightly said that we need to remember the forgotten traditions.

He urged the legislature, the executive, and other state organs to play their role to uphold rule of law and supremacy of the Constitution.
