A special court in Lahore has accepted the bail applications of four co-accused involved in a sugar mills corruption case in which former Punjab chief minister and PTI President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and ex-federal minister Moonis Elahi have also been nominated, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
While accepting the bail applications of the four co-accused, Anti-Corruption Court Special Judge Ali Raza Awan ordered the quartet to submit Rs1 million surety bonds each.
The co-accused in the sugar mills case who were granted bail included ex-deputy secretary industries Dr Khurram Shahzad, former DG industries Rao Pervaiz, and two government officers Nawaz Cheema and Imad-ud-Din
Lawyer Amir Saeed Ran and Advocate Mukhtar Ahmad Ranjha presented arguments on behalf of the accused.
The co-accused filed their applications from the jail through their lawyers.
According to the FIR, the accused increased the production quota of the sugar mills in order to provide benefit to the sugar mills of Ch Pervaiz Elahi and his son Moonis Elahi in Rahim Yar Khan.
The accused committed corruption of millions of rupees in connivance with the Elahis, the FIR said.
However, the counsel for the accused contested it and told the court that all sugar mills were equally benefitted by increasing the production quota.
