The Sindh government has written a letter to the Interior Ministry for sending Army soldiers in the province to implement coronavirus curbs, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
Invoking Article 245 of the Constitution, the Sindh government has sent a request to the Interior Ministry seeking Army’s help in implementing standard operating measures in the province to control coronavirus spread.
As Covid-19 cases are rising in the province, the provincial government has become active to take strict measures to control the pandemic.
Earlier, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government also sought Army’s help and soldiers were deployed in the Peshawar police stations to help enforce the coronavirus guidelines.
Also on Saturday, Army troops patrolled many markets in Islamabad, assisting local administration to help implement Covid-19 SOPs.
The countrywide death toll has surged to 17,117 as 118 more people died of Covid-19 and another 5,611 cases were reported during the last 24 hours bringing the total number of cases to 795,627.
According to official statistics, in Sindh 277,593 cases were reported, in Punjab 288,598, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 113,121, in Islamabad 72,981, in Balochistan 21,618, in Azad Kashmir 16,463 and in Gilgit Baltistan 5,253 cases have been reported so far.
