Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) President Maulana Fazlur Rahman has said the ruling coalition is mulling over judicial as well as judicial measures to get over the current judicial crisis.
“We are mulling over judicial means to get over the ongoing crisis. Using political options to get over this crisis is too on the cards,” he said while talking to 24NewsHD TV channel.
“We have called a party meeting to mull over the measures to launch a mass contact campaign to raise awareness about the judicial activism hazards.
“We will devise a strategy to run the campaign,” he added.
The Jamiat Ulema Islam chief said using this political option in addition to bringing a reference to the Supreme Judicial Council against the chief justice of Pakistan was also floated in the meeting of coalition partners.
Last week, the Supreme Court during the hearing of a case pertaining to holding elections across the country gave all the major political parties a week to develop a consensus on the election schedule. However, the ruling coalition rejected the apex court order, saying that talks with the PTI could not be held under the court’s watch, terming it ‘talks at gunpoint’.
The PTI and ruling parties have been in an impasse regarding polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab — where assemblies were dissolved earlier this year.
The PTI chief has been mounting pressure for a snap poll since his ouster from the prime minister’s office in April last year through a no-confidence motion. He took to the streets and dissolved the provincial assemblies of Punjab and KP as his street shows could bear fruit.
The coalition government has been calling to put off the election because of financial and security issues but the top court ordered holding the election on time at all cost.
