Federal Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb on Thursday dubbed the flood situation a national emergency, stating that national spirit had to be shown to deal with unusual destruction due to rains in Sindh and Balochistan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

“There is a need of donations from the entire nation, especially overseas Pakistanis, to help the flood-hit people. A huge amount of money will be required to mend the damages caused by the large-scale disaster,” she said.

“The federal government, along with the provinces, is making vigorous efforts, and all available resources for the relief of flood-hit people are being mobilised,” she added.

“Due to heavy rains and severe flooding, relief operations are being hampered. The rescue and relief operations for the flood-hit people can be accelerated with the help of the public,” she pointed out.

It is to be noted here that details for depositing donations in Prime Minister Flood Relief Account 2022 have already been released.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman said while addressing a news conference that no part of the country had been spared from the rains.

She stated that more than 913 people had died due to rains and floods in the country, adding that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) was conducting a survey to determine the level of destruction caused by rains and floods.

“Currently, there are 30 flood-hit districts in Sindh. Collectively, 30 million people have been affected by floods. Efforts are being made to help the people affected by floods in every possible way,” she maintained.

“The monsoon rains have brought devastating floods with them. Accounts have been opened to donate to the flood-hit people. The flood situation is very serious. There have been record rains in the month of August,” she added.

“Skardu and Taunsa barrages have been filled completely. At this time, there is a crisis in the country. There is destruction everywhere. The River Indus has been flooded on both sides. A lot more work needs to be done to deal with potential disaster,” she stressed.
