Federal Urdu University Karachi Thursday revised fee structure of the academia with an increase of 50 percent, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a press conference acting vice chancellor of the university Prof Ziauddin said that they have no option except to restructure the fees due to the limited resources of the university and the present inflation situation.
He said that they had appealed Higher Education Commission (HEC) to increase the grant to the university but all had gone in vain as the HEC authorities refused to increase the grant.
“After refusal from the HEC, we convened the academic council meeting on August 2 which decided unanimously to increase 50 percent fee. The 10 percent increase at the beginning of the year is also included in the recent increase,” he added.
He said that in the years 2018, 2019 and 2020 they did not increase the fee despite financial problems.
All the universities have the same problems in the current financial situation the country is going through, he added.
He said that they also met the authorities of the Sindh government as Karachi's second largest university for grants. All the universities in Sindh are funded by both the Sindh Government and the HEC, he added.
“As we are a federal university we only get grants from HEC only”, he concluded.
