The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday threw out a plea against the appointment of Justice (r) Maqbool Baqar as the caretaker chief minister, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The petitioner’s lawyer, Ibrahim Abro, appeared before the court to present his arguments.
“What is your case? What have you challenged?” the SHC chief justice inquired.
“His two years after retirement are yet to be completed, but he has been made the caretaker chief minister,” the petitioner’s lawyer said.
“Who are you talking about?” the chief justice inquired.
“I am talking about Justice (r) Maqbool Baqar,” Ibrahim Abro Advocate said.
“He was a judge of the Supreme Court. You should be respectful, sir,” SHC Chief Justice Ahmad Ali said to him.
“Under Article 207, Maqbool Baqar cannot become the caretaker chief minister. He cannot be appointed to any profitable post for two years,” the petitioner’s lawyer argued before the court.
“You should read the Pakistan Services Rules. You are quoting the wrong law,” Justice Yusuf Ali said to the lawyer.
It is to be noted here that the plea, filed in the SHC against the appointment of Justice (r) Maqbool Baqar, stated that the retired judge cannot become the caretaker chief minister without completing two years after retirement.
The plea further stated that Maqbool Baqar’s appointment as the caretaker chief minister was against Article 207 of the Constitution, demanding that the court bar him from working as the caretaker chief minister.
