Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday posted a video of a rare snow leopard in Khaplu, Gilgit Baltistan on Twitter, reported 24NewsHD TV.
In the video, the snow leopard is seen making noises standing under the rock. The video was made last year on December 2.
On the other side, Chitral District is one of Pakistan’s key snow leopard habitats, located high in the Hindukush mountain range on the western edge of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).
According to the estimated study, the snow leopard habitat in Pakistan is about 80,000 square kilometres, which is 4.5 percent of the global snow leopard range. Only 11% of this habitat has been researched because of the harsh terrain and intense climatic conditions making research difficult.
A recent World Wildlife Fund (WWF) report states that 221-450 snow leopards are killed worldwide each year, of which about 55% are in exchange for hunting human livestock.
