Wasim Akram, Wahab Riaz, Haider Ali test positive ahead of PSL launch

Coronavirus has struck two days before the launch of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as Peshawar Zalmi captain Wahab Riaz and big hitter Haider Ali and Karachi Kings President Wasim Akram have contracted Covid-19, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

The total toll of coronavirus positive players for the Peshawar Zalmi has reached four as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had day confirmed a day earlier that Kamran Akmal and Arshad Iqbal had also tested positive for coronavirus and were replaced by players from the reserves pool.

The replacements will be temporary and the replaced players can re-integrate into the squad after completing isolation and receiving negative PCR results, the Board further said.

PSL 2022 is set to begin in two days, January 27, at the National Stadium in Karachi, but several players and support staff have already tested positive for coronavirus.

Four days back, the PCB said three cricketers and five members of the support staff from different franchises had tested positive for COVID-19.
