Pakistanis have spent 96 billion rupees on the import of tea during the first six months of the current fiscal year 2023-24, showing an increase of 35 billion rupees compared to the six months of 2022, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Tea is a popular drink all across Pakistan and the demand of tea in winter snowballs.

However, tea from tribal areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also being used in the country.

All Pakistan Tea Association chief Zeeshan Paracha told 24NewsHD TV channel that currently tea was being sold around Rs1500 to 1900 per kg.

He said owing to decline in US dollar value, the price of tea will also fall. He said during fiscal year 2022-23, Pakistanis imported Rs71.10 billion worth of tea.
