Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Monday presided over an emergent meeting held at South Punjab Secretariat Multan in which the latest flood situation and preparations as well as Muharram security arrangements were reviewed.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the CM was briefed on Muharram security arrangements, urban flooding, and the flood situation.
On the occasion, CM Mohsin Naqvi issued orders to monitor flood relays passing through the Sindh River. The administration and related institutions should keep full preparations in view of the flood situation, he said.
He also asked the authorities to ensure the timely evacuation of people and livestock from the Indus River bed in case of flooding. “Encroachments in the course of the river should be removed immediately,” he added.
Mohsin Naqvi also instructed to Punjab Communications & Works Secretary to take urgent measures with the help of the National Highway Authority to restore traffic in Fort Munro. “Unnecessary movement of Chinese citizens should be restricted during Muharram,” Mohsin Naqvi urged.
The meeting was told that the water situation in the Indus River is normal. “Arrangements have been completed to deal with urban flooding in Multan.”
The meeting was told that implementation of the security plan is being ensured during Muharram. “Administration, police, and other security agencies are monitoring Muharram processions and assemblies.”
Chief Secretary, IG Police, Additional Chief Secretary South Punjab, Senior Member Board of Revenue and concerned officials attended the meeting.
Provincial Information Minister Aamir Mir, Chairman Planning and Development Board, Secretaries Irrigation, Agriculture, Communication and Works, Local Government, Housing, Energy, Health, Finance, Information, Livestock, School Education, Additional IG Special Branch, DG PDMA, DG Rescue 1122, DGPR, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan Commissioners, and RPOs also attended the meeting through video link.
