The Punjab Home Department has allowed a US diplomat to hold meeting with PTI supporter and fashion designer Khadija Shah who was detained in connection with the May 9 riots erupted after the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
The home department has permitted the US diplomat to meet Ms Shah in jail on July 27. She could apprise him of her problems.
On June 8, Pakistan allowed consular access to renowned fashion designer and granddaughter of former army chief Asif Nawaz Janjua on the request of the US.
The ministry received the US request through Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ms Shah is a Pakistani and also holds American nationality.
On June 7, the US State Department called on Pakistan to grant consular access to fashion designer and PTI leader Khadija Shah who got dual citizenship.
The State Department said its diplomats did not have access to Ms Shah, the founder of the luxury fashion brand Elan.
"We have asked Pakistani officials for consular access to her," State Department spokesman Vedant Patel told reporters in Washington, confirming Ms Shah's dual nationality.
"Whenever a US citizen is arrested overseas, we stand ready to provide all appropriate assistance and we expect Pakistani authorities to respect all fair-trial guarantees owed to these detainees," Patel said.
