At a time when electricity is already very expensive in the country and is testing people’s patience, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) on Thursday filed a petition in the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), seeking Rs2.63 per unit increase in the electricity prices, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The CPPA requested for raise in the power tariff under the fuel price adjustment for the month of June.

The NEPRA will hear the CPPA’s petition on July 31.

Frequent raise in electricity prices has drawn people’s attention towards expensive power purchase agreements signed with Independent Power Producers (IPPs).

The worst agreements have resulted in the IPPs receiving capacity payments, even if they do not produce electricity, and these are ordinary citizens who are made to bear the burden of these payments.
