The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Thursday issued a show-cause notice to Captain Imran Narejo, secretary general of the Pakistan Airlines Pilots Association (PALPA), for circulating a directive to PIA pilots on April 5 this year to go on strike.
According the show-cause notice, the pilots’ strike on April 5 caused the PIA financial losses. Pilots went on strike in violation of the Employees Disciplinary Policy 2019, says the notice. Under this policy, a strict action can be taken against those directing the pilots to go on strike or adopt the “go slow” policy. The policy allows a strict action against people issuing such directives.
Captain Imran has been directed to respond to the show-cause notice in person within seven days of its issuance. He should explain why action should not be taken against him in line with the policy. Under the law, the PIA management reserves the right to proceed against Captain Imran in case he does not respond to the show-cause notice within the given timeframe. Captain Imran has been directed to respond to the show-cause notice in person by June 30.
