The FIA has made a significant progress in the Mumbai attacks case and arrested an absconding accused Sajid Majeed Mir involved in the attacks in neighbouring country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
According to the FIA, accused Sajid Mir was absconding since 2008 and the American intelligence agency, FBI, had put his name in the list of most wanted persons.
According to media reports, Sajid Mir (44) who directed the 2008 Mumbai attacks was handed down a 15 ½ years jail term by an anti-terrorism court in Lahore in the first week of this month. The court found him guilty of involving in a terror financing case and also imposed a fine on him to the tune of Rs420,000.
Sajid Mir is currently serving his term in Kot Lakhpat, jail.
Lahore-born Sajid Mir is mostly known for his alleged role in planning and executing the Mumbai attacks that left 166, including 26 foreigners, dead and brought the two nuclear armed neighbours to the brink of war. He allegedly had directed the attackers from Lahore during the siege in Mumbai.
He is claimed to have spent two years carrying out reconnaissance and scouting targets in Mumbai. He reportedly did this with the help of David Coleman Headley – the American terrorist, who is currently serving a 35 years sentence in the US for his involvement in international terrorism.
Pakistan is rigorously working to act upon all the action plans given by the International Financial Action Task Force (FATF) regarding stemming of terror financing and money laundering to get out of the grey list of the watchdog.
