Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has declared that Pakistan's progress was linked to the success of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) with Gwadar Port as its main feature, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing the passing-out parade of the 117th Midshipman and 25th Short Service Commission course at Pakistan Naval Academy in Karachi on Saturday, Shehbaz Sharif said to make Gwadar Port a success story under CPEC banner the role of the Pakistan Navy was very important.
The prime minister stressed the need for a strong and vibrant navy had become more important than ever because of the ever-growing blue economy, marine security and strategic defence.
"The maritime domain is continuously evolving due to technological advancements and changing geopolitical realities," the premier said, noting that these changes were taking place both globally and regionally. "And I am glad that Pakistan Navy with its available resources continues to perform and fulfil our international obligations most effectively," he remarked.
The prime minister also stated that the economic progress in the country could only take place in a peaceful environment. "It is, therefore, our government's resolve to make all necessary resources available to strengthen Pakistan Navy for making the seaward defence impregnable," he added.
He further lauded the navy for rapidly developing its indigenous capability and extending joint ventures with neighbouring countries. "Let me assure you that the nation stands behind you and shall ensure that Pakistan Navy is equipped with the latest technology and equipment to protect our maritime interest," he said.
Shehbaz declared that the nation was proud of its armed forces for making the country's defence impregnable and playing a key role in the fight against terrorisml.
Shehbaz averred that Pakistan Navy has even more important role to play in the present age of ever-growing blue economy, marine security and strategic defence. The prime minister maintained arming Pakistan Navy with latest technology for safeguarding maritime borders of the country is a priority of the government.
Shehbaz said Pakistan believed in peace and peaceful co-existence, but this must not be taken as our weakness. He said Pakistan’s armed forces were fully capable to take on any challenge.
He was of the view that it was only with prevailing peace that the country can move forward on the path of development and prosperity.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reviewed the guard of honour and distributed prizes among the passing-out cadets from Pakistan and friendly countries for their distinctive performance.
Earlier in the day, the prime minister landed in the port city where Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah welcomed him at the airport.
Soon after arrival, PM Shehbaz headed straight to Pakistan Naval Academy to participate in the passing-out parade of 117 Midshipman and 25th Short Service Commission Course.
Later, he is schedule to have a meeting with CM Murad where they will lay focus on the steps being taken for the welfare of common man and development of the province.
He was also due to meet with the delegations of PML-N and MQM-P during his visit to the Sindh capital.
On his way back to Islamabad, the prime minister will make a stopover at Nawabshah where he will offer his condolences to former president Asif Ali Zardari over the death of his mother.
