The board of directors of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has removed Managing Director Ali J Hamdani from service over charges of corruption in mega gas pipeline projects, the 24NewsHD TV channel.
Earlier, the board of directors in their 600th meeting on February 18, 2023, passed a resolution that Hamdani should cease to exercise his powers as MD with immediate effect and until the board and/or a committee, formed by it, expeditiously completed a review of the matters.
Now the board reached a consensus that Hamdani caused a loss of billions of rupees to the company due to financial irregularities.
The former MD was receiving the highest salary which was Rs5.5 million per month. The SNGPL’s board of directors ordered the inquiry into ex-MD’s salary too. He was drawing the salary after his suspension.
The board was apprehensive about launching the controversial 260-km long Bannu West Pipeline project worth Rs 22 billion.
Ali Javed Hamdani after making senior officers OSD, handed over the company to junior officers.
Sources revealed that the company detected financial irregularity worth millions in the 260-km pipeline in Bannu which led to the launching of an inquiry against Hamdani.
The committee also reviewed the matters discussed in the board meeting.
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) already expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of the SNGPL MD and the chairperson SNGPL Board.
