In a letter to the authorities concerned regarding peaceful voting for the upcoming no-confidence motion, Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif demanded that the proceedings of the National Assembly should be conducted as per the rules to avoid any bloodshed, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
Sources privy to the development reveal that the opposition leader has written a letter to the National Assembly speaker, interior secretary, chief election commissioner, and Islamabad inspector general of police for peaceful holding of the NA proceedings.
The letter was written by him on March 24.
The text of the letter reads: “As you know, the opposition submitted a no-confidence motion to the Parliament on March 8. A requisition for convening a meeting of the National Assembly was also submitted on the same day. The Constitution and the law, for convening a meeting of the National Assembly on the no-confidence motion, are clear. Every member of the National Assembly has the right to attend the meeting.”
The text of the letter further reads: “Apart from the prime minister, federal ministers and advisers to the prime minister, some other officials have made statements to stop the parliamentarians from voting. Unparliamentary language is also being used in this regard. The prime minister has threatened the opposition leader in a public meeting. He has also given a statement to gather one million people at D-Chowk as a warning to the parliamentarians coming to the National Assembly for voting on the no-confidence day. There is a threat of possible bloodshed which must be prevented by conducting the National Assembly proceedings as per the rules.”
