The members of Punjab and Sindh water boards have indulged in a verbal brawl during a meeting of Indus River System Authority in Islamabad on Tuesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Reportedly, the Irsa meeting held in Islamabad witnessed a mudslinging match between the members of Sindh and Punjab.
The Irsa called a meeting to deliberate on the water crisis in Sindh. Members of all four provinces participated in the session.
In the meeting, Sindh member Zahid Hussain Junejo complained that his province was receiving 44 percent less share of water.
Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa members also endorsed Sindh’s position.
However, the Punjab member was not agreeing to the Sindh member’s claim. They exchanged hot words. The Sindh member accused the Punjab member of calling names.
Mr Junejo contacted Sindh Irrigation Minister Suhail Anwar Siyal who informed Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah of the obnoxious development unfolded in the Irsa meeting.
The Sindh CM has decided to write a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan in this regard.
On Thursday, during a presser, when Sindh chief minister was asked about the reports of removing the Irsa from Sindh, the CM said he had not seen any notification and the law clearly stated that the provinces had to be consulted at the time of appointment and removal of members.
In this connection, the CM said the Centre might have shown intention and desire to move ahead with the removal, but no formal decision had so far been made.
This reply was in contrast with the provincial government’s spokesperson, Murtaza Wahab, who had said at a media briefing on Wednesday that the federal government had bulldozed the law by removing the Irsa member unconstitutionally and illegally.
It was earlier reported in media that the federal cabinet approved the process of removing the Irsa members from Punjab and Sindh for their failure to discharge their duties, especially the installation of telemetry system on the Indus Basin Irrigation System.
