The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has written a letter to the government seeking funds for the procurement of Electronic Voting Machines for the next general elections, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
According to the Parliamentary Affairs Ministry, the ECP will buy more than 800,000 EVMs for next the general election.
Sources informed the ECP wrote an epistle to the federal government regarding the release of funds for purchasing of more than 0.8 million EVMs that will be used in the next general elections. The ECP further stated that the commission needs 3 acres piece of land for the storage of the EVMs.
As per the contents of the ECP letter, the general elections are expected to be held in Oct 2023 and the commission has to take necessary measures regarding the use of new technology in 23 months.
The commission stated that it needed a warehouse for the storage of the EVMs and suggested a building in the Kohisar Block, Floor 2.
According to Parliamentary Affairs Ministry sources, the ECP needs a building for the purpose of data centre, control centre, modern lab, printing and training sessions.
The ECP has asked the Parliamentary Affairs Ministry to forward its proposal to the concerned authorities.
