Dispelling the impression that there were some holy cows for the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), its Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal said on Thursday that whosoever committing any wrongdoing would pay for it, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a function in Lahore, he said that some politicians wanted to remain relevant in today’s politics by targeting the NAB. “That’s why they keep spitting venom at the bureau day and night,” he regretted.
He challenged those accusing the anti-corruption watchdog of ‘corruption’ to give proofs in support of their allegations. “Let me tell you that the bureau is keeping the stock of each and every penny it has recovered from the corrupt elements so far. We have handed over lands worth billions of rupees to their rightful owners. Rs450 billion we have so far recovered are lying with the Supreme Court,” he said, and added, “Corruption has eaten the country to the core. If somebody thinks that he or she has been wrongly implicated in a case, he or she may go to the court,” the NAB chairman said.
Making it clear that NAB is not part of the problem, but part of the solution, Justice (r) Javed Iqbal said categorically that the Jihad the bureau had waged against corruption would continue.
Affectees of Pak-Arab Society end protest on NAB chairman’s assurance
Meanwhile, the affectees of Pak-Arab Housing Society, who were protesting outside NAB’s Lahore office, agreed to end their sit-in following the NAB chairman assured them that not only the bureau would start working on their case on Monday (November 29, 2021), but would also ensure its settlement in weeks, rather than in months.
The affectees, who have been seeking justice for the last four years, gathered outside the NAB office in Lahore and chanted slogans at the top of their voice to vent their anger against the ‘fraudsters’.
