The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) Tuesday approved the Rs292.38 billion Circular Railway project in Karachi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to the Ministry of Planning and Development, the development of the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) as a modern and urban railway will enhance the existing public transport facilities in Karachi.
According to the details, the project envisions and aims for the construction of a 43 km dual-track urban rail mass transit system which is expected to be completed in the next four years.
The KCR project is expected to transport a mass of 457,000 passengers per day in the initial stages and in the future, it will be able to carry a ridership of a million passengers using electric trains.
The railway trains in this project will be functioning seven days a week and 17 hours in a day.
Thirty stations will be built along the corridor in densely populated areas of the city under the project in this program.
