Chief Justice (CJ) of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Aamer Farooq on Wednesday said that he would summon Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail superintendent to brief him about the steps he had taken for the provision of security to former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan as well as the facilities provided to him, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
During the hearing of PTI chairman’s wife Bushra Bibi’s petition, seeking security for her husband in the Adiala Jail, the CJ said after giving an order, he would then again take up the case for hearing in the next week.
Sardar Latif Khosa Advocate, counsel for Bushra, said that since just like was the case with another former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Imran’s sentence in the Toshakhana reference had been suspended; therefore, it was requested that both former prime ministers should be treated alike. “It is unfortunate the PTI chairman is being treated like this despite the fact that his sentence has been suspended,” Khosa regretted.
Speaking on the occasion, the additional attorney general (AAG) of Punjab said that the government of Punjab was providing facilities to the PTI chairman as per the jail manual.
The CJ said that a division bench had given its ruling on a similar petition filed by PTI lawyer Sher Afzal Marwat.
Addressing the chief justice, Imran’s counsel prayed to him to get his own order in the case implemented.
CJ Farooq replied that was the reason he was going to summon the jail superintendent so that he could have an idea to what extent the order had been implemented.
