The local court in Islamabad has granted one-day physical remand of journalist Ayaz Amir in connection with the murder of his daughter-in-law by his son Shahnawaz Amir, reported 24News HD TV channel.
The sessions court on Sunday granted one-day physical remand of Ayaz Amir, father of Shahnawaz Amir who had brutally murdered his wife Sara Inam with a dumbbell a few days ago.
Earlier, journalist Ayaz Amir was produced by police before the court of a magistrate in F-8 Kutchery, Islamabad today. Investigative officer and concerned deputy superintendent officer were also present in the court.
Judge Zahid Tirmizi heard the case. During hearing, journalist Ayaz and main accused Shahnawaz Amir appeared before the court.
Ayaz told the court that he was dismayed that police arrested him as it was he who informed the police about the murder and guided them about the location of the crime scene i.e. his farmhouse.
His lawyer said that he was not even nominated in the case but police insisted that since it was a high profile case involving murder of a Canadian national, so he should also be arrested.
Ayaz told the court that he had no sympathies with his son as he was a suspect.
Court inquired of the police why did they arrest the journalist. On which, police said that Ayaz attended his son’s marriage ceremony with Sara Inam at Chakwal but concealed the fact from Sara that his son was previously married.
But Ayaz denied police’s claim saying that he had already told his daughter-in-law about his son’s previous marriage. He further told the court that his son was addicted to drugs.
The judge after hearing arguments granted one-day physical remand of Ayaz Amir who was handed over to the police for further grilling.
Ayaz Amir had been detained by police on Saturday for investigations into the murder of his daughter-in-law Sara by her husband Shahnawaz Amir.
Moreover, the father of Sara will also arrive in Pakistan tonight from Canada.

It is learnt that Shahnawaz and Sara got married on July 18 last. Both had studied together in school. A few months ago, they became friends on social media again.
It is also learnt that Shahnawaz owned no business nor did he have any job.

He lived on the rent of shops that he had inherited from his father.
Shahnawaz’s first wife, Fatima, had left him after a few days of marriage, whereas, his second wife had left him after six months of marriage. Sara was his third wife.
After the separation between his father and mother, Shahnawaz had left his education incomplete for continuously failing in the A-levels.
Sara’s family had recently learned about her marriage with Shahnawaz. Discussion for a formal marriage ceremony and departure of the bride was underway between the two families.
The body of Sara will be kept in the morgue of the Polyclinic Hospital till her burial.
Shahzad Town Police had arrested Ayaz Amir in connection with the murder of his daughter-in-law on Saturday night.
According to sources, Section 109 has been added to the case now along with 302.
Ayaz Amir and his wife will also be interrogated.
