In order to enable Turkmenistan to reap the benefits of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), both Pakistan and the Central Asian country are likely to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) so that the latter could be granted access to the Gwadar Port in collaboration with the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
If materialized as planned, Turkmenistan will become the first Central Asian country to have gained access to the Gwadar Port under the CPEC.
Both countries are already working on projects such as the TAPI Pipeline, railway track and fiber connectivity with the view to connect the South Asian countries to those in Central Asia.
The government has already constituted a committee for the scrutiny of the draft of the agreement to be signed between Pakistan and Turkmenistan.
It is hoped that the development of the Gwadar Port will enhance regional connectivity and generate job opportunities besides attracting more foreign investment.
