Murder convict arrested from Karachi after 19 years on the run

The Azad Kashmir police have arrested a condemned murderer from Karachi who had managed to escape from Muzaffarabad’s Central Jail taking advantage of October 8, 2005 deadly earthquake, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.


According to details, a police team from Muzaffarabad arrested Aurangzeb Siddiqui from Karachi.


Siddiqui had murdered religious scholar Mian Fazal Elahi in 1997. Mian Fazal Elahi was performing ablution in a mosque when he was murdered by Siddiqui.


After conclusion of his trial, the court found him guilty of murder and awarded him capital punishment.


But during the October 8, 2005 devastating earthquake, the entire building of Muzaffarabad Central Jail was collapsed and the murder convict managed to escape.


A complaint was filed against him at Pathakawa Kahwari Police Station in Naseerabad Tehsil of Muzaffarabad.


Later he fled from Pakistan and was living abroad. On his arrival in Karachi from abroad he was apprehended dramatically by a police team headed by police officer Liaquat Hameed.
