Pakistan Tax Bar has written a letter to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman and Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb in order to bring to their notice the difficulties the taxpayers and tax consultants are confronting due to a technical fault in the IRIS Software, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
The Bar besides condemning the blocking of SIMs and severing the electricity and gas connections of those failing to file their tax returns on time also requested the recipients of the letter to extend the deadline for filing tax returns.
The letter states that the government’s ‘Tajir Daust Scheme’, introduced to broaden the tax base, has failed to produce the desired results.
The Bar complains that the FBR, instead of cracking down on those challenging the writ of the state, is coming down hard on those who abide by the law.
Furthermore, it has demanded the Bureau to facilitate the filers who fail to file their returns by September 30 due to some genuine reasons.
“The FBR should extend the deadline for filing the returns until October 15 without slapping any fine or taking any other action,” reads the letter.
