The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) declared Tuesday its former director general Bashir Memon innocent in three cases of human trafficking and money laundering in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Ghulam Rasool in Lahore, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
“What is the report of the investigation into these cases so far?” the court enquired from the FIA’s investigation officer to which he replied that the investigation was complete.
“Bashir Memon is not wanted by the FIA. He is not involved in all three cases,” the FIA investigation officer told the court.
The court recorded the statement of the investigation officer.
The lawyers for Bashir Memon — Mian Ali Ashfaq and Rana Maroof — withdrew petitions filed in the high court.
“The first petition we filed was against the FIA. The second petition we filed in the high court,” said Mian Ali Ashfaq.
Bashir Memon had also appeared in the court for extension of interim bail.
Later, while talking to media, he said that he had complete confidence in the courts from day one.
He also accused Director General Abbasi of making the FIA a political institution, adding the institutions suffered if politicised.
He also stated that the money laundering case against Shehbaz Sharif was false. “I had said on the first day too that the money laundering case against Shehbaz Sharif is false. It has proved today and will prove in future too,” he added.
